“As a lifelong Chicago resident, I have lived in various parts of the city; but, living in Hyde Park over the past year has been very special. I have been a part of several projects with the Museum of Science and Industry as well as with the Chicago Public School (CPS). I currently manage programs with CPS’ students. Hyde Park is rapidly expanding and continuing to be a place of art and culture. I couldn’t be happier to be immersed in its growth.”
“I’m a nerd, so whenever I think of fear, I think of “The Litany Against Fear,” in Frank Herbert’s Sci-Fi book “Dune”. I find the litany helpful whenever I feel like fear is affecting my decision-making process. The Litany Against Fear is an incantation used by the Bene Gesserit (a key social, religious, and political force) throughout the series to focus their minds and calm themselves in times of peril.
The Litany is as follows:
“I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
“The happiest moment of my life would have to be fighting fobots in the SyFy Channel’s Robot Combat League. It is a surreal and amazing experience.”
“The most influential people in my life are probably the high school students that I interact with at South Shore International College Prep. They keep me grounded and informed on what today’s youth really find impactful. Working with youth typically snaps me back to reality and helps me to think outside of my immediate experiences. I am more creative and motivated when working with youth than in any other circumstance.”
“I founded Sugar Gamers 10 years ago and it is still relevant today as it was in the beginning. Years ago, if I was asked whether I would still be during this today, I would have said no! Sugar Gamers has been ultra-fulfilling work and we are only going to get better!”
